UAG YDL 2018 Report

Lauren, Harry, Matthew S, Troy, Luke & Sam have contributed extremely well to SHAC's third place in this league over three fixtures. They have represented our Training group Philosophy brilliantly and in so many different ways. When the Club was struggling to fill places on the teamsheet Troy & Matt S stepped forward to fill in where there was a lack of Power athletes in events such as Sprints/Relays, Long Jump & Shot. In my book, this is what is known as "PARTICIPATION" for all the right reasons and for the multitude of benefits that it offers individuals from a developmental perspective.

At times our U17 athletes competed in the U20 category to get points for the club. What superb attitude and team spirit! One really good example is Lauren throwing a heavier weight Javelin in the U20 age group. In this last fixture she got a PB and came 4th in the A competition!!! Our focus on Speed & Force generation, even with our endurance athletes, is coming along very nicely.

Luke & Sam as our U20s continue to produce performance that are a real inspiration to the whole group and are demonstrating how well our Long Term development philosophy is working.

In this last fixture Sam (as a previous Octathlete - Derbyshire's No 1) competed in 5 events for the Club - The ONLY athlete doing the U20M 400mH across all the teams present!!! plus High Jump, Discus, Javelin(PB) & the 4 x 400m relay team. Two days on from this superb run, jump & throw marathon effort Sam produced a 400m PB at Trafford. Do I need to say more!?

Luke has had an excellent first T&F season with us. His transition to Speed & middle distance events has produced PB after PB and there was more of the same in this last fixture, with a 6 second PB in the 1500m. Luke's background, unlike the rest of the group, is not in multi-eventing but in endurance and yet he too contributed to the overall team effort when there was noone else to do Power events such as Shot & Long Jump. He also made an outstanding contribution to the 4 x 400m relay team.

These young athletes are a great credit to themselves, their families, their training group & Club. The Coaching group is really proud of them and their achievements. The next thing we will be working on with them is correct Nutrition :-)
