UK Youth Development League U13/15 report - Match 1

Congratulations to Ella, Lauren, Harry & Jonah for being selected and proudly representing their local athletics club, Stockport Harriers. Between them they gained points for the club in 8 different events: Javelin, Discus, Hurdles, 150m, 300m, 800m, 1200m and the Relays. I am very proud of the fact that these four athletes, who are being developed in line with the UK athlete development model, as multi-eventers, are able to compete comfortably across most events. They not only compete over T&F for their club but also do so during the Cross Country season. They are a great credit to our training group.

Yet again there were numerous PBs across the majority of the events they competed in but to me the highlights were:

- Harry's PB in the Javelin and his first attempt at 300m which will develop nicely over time.

- Lauren's massive PB in the 800m - a tactically correct performance - and her 300m relay leg was technically superb, holding her form throughout.

- "Full of cold" Ella continues to show real strength of mind & character and produced 75m and 150m times that were good enough to achieve UK rankings for her! Watch this space.

- Jonah also produced a massive PB in his 800m, got a UK ranking in Hurdles (in his first ever race) and won the U13 boys Javelin event! No need to say anymore.

I'd like to make one last comment, which highlights both the way in which the above results are being achieved and the commitment that the model we are following requires. Ella ran 4 races on Saturday. On Sunday morning, she was at training, working on her Long Jump & Javelin technique! On Tuesday she could be doing something completely different. The results are not being produced through early specialisation!!
