Manchester Harriers Primary Schools Cross Countries 2015/16 - Race 4

The group had 8 young athletes competing for their Primary schools on Saturday at Wythenshawe Park. All the children did extremely well over a course that needed to be changed due to the very heavy underfoot conditions. The original course would have meant they would have had to run through a lake. That is how bad it was, but great credit to Manchester Harriers as they found a really good new route round the Park.

I was particularly pleased that: Ava (14th) in the Year 3/4 Girls race and Freddy(19th) in the Year 5/6 Boys race, achieved their best results to date. They will deservedly receive their first certificates for the great endurance work they have done this winter. It is for both of them their first Cross Country season and they are progressing really well. Well done both of you!

In the Year 3/4 Girls race both Alexa(6th) and Natalia(39th) achieved their best results to date at this event and that was the same for our Year 3/4 Boys, William(5th) & Jack(6th). Absolutely fantastic results.

Daniel(12th) & Libby(18th) keep producing consistent results as year 5s and I particularly enjoyed watching both of them set off in a really positive manner. I also very much appreciate how these two young athletes are so much more relaxed about competition.

All of the above are excellent results for children who are multi-eventers. As yet another example, 7 out of the 8 children above, were doing the Power Pentathlon the following day, which has little or possibly no relevance to an Endurance event such as Cross Country.

Extremely pleased with this very young group of athletes.
