Stockport Harriers Primary School Cross Countries 2015/16 - Race 5

16 of our Primary School young athletes represented their schools proudly last Saturday. There is little point really in comparing their results to previous races, as the race was over a different course and  underfoot conditions were very heavy. Having now done 5 of the 6 races, I would like to focus, on this occasion with one race to go, on current overall positions. Consistency, from a number of perspectives, in any Sport, is essential. The results being achieved by our fabulous group of young athletes is really impressive, in my opinion. We are not an elitist group, we encourage all children, of all abilities, to give every event in our multi-event training programme a go. Every event developes them in a different way and Cross Country is no different. With this in mind and considering that Cross Country may not be their best event or endurance a real strength, I am sure you will agree with me that these current overall positions, for those who have already completed 4 races, are excellent:

Sofia (4th), Alexa (5th), Jack (8th), William B (10th), Oliver (11th), Daniel (12th), Ava (18th), Libby (18th) and Davey (28th).

After race 6 I hope to be able to report back even more excellent overall positions.

Unfortunately, Jonah was unable to complete this race through a calf strain injury. Well done to Tom and Maja who got back to doing Cross Countries after an absence. Freddy and Louis are also putting in some good endurance work and gaining good Cross Country experience.

I do want to highlight two individual race 5 results. I was delighted that Oliver gained his first Top ten result and certificate - as a year 3, who has worked hard on his endurance work, going all the way back to 600m on the track during the Summer, it is really well deserved. Finally, a big congratulations goes to Lilly who bettered her previous best result by 36 places! She has been working so hard in training, that such a result, doesn't surprise me at all and is exactly the reward that she so deserves.
