4th Stockport Harriers Schools Cross Country 2014/15

Well done to Poppy, Isobel, Grace, Libby, Daniel, Davey, William B, Ella, Millie, William Btg and William H for taking part in the above event. It is absolutely great that 11 young athletes from our group were out there doing excellent exercise on a Saturday morning and representing their schools proudly.

Before highlighting what I consider to be outstanding performances, I just as importantly, want to highlight some fabulous attitude and commitment. There were three members of the group that were not 100% on the day and so they just used the race for training purposes, in a very mature manner and just got it done. Well done to Grace, Poppy and Millie. I also think William Btgs commitment to this series of races is exemplary - William Btg has hardly missed a race over the years.

Isobel is relatively very new to Cross Country. In September she came 40th in this race and on Saturday she knocked 35 seconds off that time, in heavy underfoot conditions, to come an excellent 20th!

Libby 9 months ago came 40th in this race, on Saturday she deservedly achieved her first top 10 finish - a fantastic 9th!

Daniel has only raced 3 times to date - he got his best finishing position - 23rd! A time PB to go along with it as well!!

Davey was only running his 3rd Cross Country to date and he achieved his best result - 16th!

William B another terrific performance to come an excellent 6th! His focus and technique looking better and better.

Ella ran a tactically excellent race and so it was no surprise to see her achieve her third top 10 finish of the year - a superb 6th!

Results don't always give the full story - William H ran an absolutely outstanding race as a year 5 against year 6s. The tactics were perfect from start to finish, the pacing was excellent and you needed to be there, to appreciate the battle he was in throughout the race. Grit, determination, positive attitude in abundance. A very very gutsy and well deserved 11th!

I have no doubt that this group of children will continue to go from strength to strength with their multi-eventing, of which Cross Country, is just one of many events we compete in.
