Leeds Indoor Young Athlete Track & Field Meeting February 2014
Harry and Lauren represented Stockport Harriers and our training group at the above event in Leeds on Sunday. Both Harry and Lauren have just moved up into the U13 age group and already look totally relaxed and comfortable with this year's challenge.
Harry picked up a PB in the Shot Putt and Lauren a PB in the Long Jump, As the season progresses these events are going to go from strength to strength for these two multi-event role models.
The two highlights for me during the meeting were: Harry achieving a PB in the 60m and Lauren's first 60m competitive hurdles race. Harry achieved this result despite the fact that he picked up a groin strain during the race. His speed has been improving really nicely in training, but this result is particularly impressive considering the circumstances. Well done Harry! Lauren is the first athlete from our group to compete in a Hurdles event and was technically very good. Her focus and concentration on the new challenge in front of her was excellent. Just to put it into perspective there were those who didn't complete the race and then there were 4 athletes in the competition who are ranked in the top 35 in the UK! All Lauren was interested in, quite rightly, was her own performance! A superb first effort at a new event.
Great attitude, commitment, maturity demonstrated by these two young athletes.
