2nd Stockport Harriers Primary School Cross Country 2013/14

19 young athletes from our training group proudly represented their Primary schools on Saturday morning at the 2nd Cross Country at Woodbank Park, arranged by our club Stockport Harriers. For 4 of our group it was the first time they had competed in a Cross Country and they all did extremely well and I am sure they will all have learnt a lot from the experience. Most importantly it was great to see them all enjoying the event. A number of children improved on their times and/or their positions; we had numerous top ten and twenty performances, which for a multi-event focused group is excellent and what is most important to me, is that the group members are recognising that whatever event/events you are good at, building endurance and overall fitness is essential. Well done to the whole group.

The standout performance on the day came from Sofia. What pleased me most, was the manner in which she achieved her victory in the Year 3/4 girls race. I encourage all our group to be positive from the outset and press on from a long way out. It was, therefore, great to see her take the lead 1000m from home and go for it. Great positivity and confidence. Well done Sofia and congratulations from the whole group on your first Cross Country Victory!

Finally, thank you to Darren, Sally and Sue for helping to Marshall the event for Stockport Harriers. I very much appreciate your support in ensuring the event ran smoothly and the course was adhered to by all the athletes.
