Multi-event meeting Macclesfield - 15th September 2013

Lauren, Harry and William did very well in their very first Multi-event competition. They all did 100m, Long jump and Javelin with Lauren also showing the boys the way, by doing a very gritty and determined 800m in extremely poor weather conditions - into horizontal rain on the backstraight! In running, jumping and throwing they all looked technically very confident and comfortable. I think it would be fair to say that from a throwing perspective they were in fact, technically, the best there. I'm sure the parents who witnessed the competition would agree with me, We are not technically proficient in one or two of the three areas, we are good across all three. I think the fact that Harry won the Javelin competition with a throw close to 18m emphasises this point further. The group has invested time into 9 different events this Track & Field Season, which has ensured the correct start to long term athlete development and that a child does not miss the opportunity of performing in any particular event through inappropriate early specialisation.

The results of the event are attached below. As the children grow and are able to add more power to their solid technical base, the group will perfom increasingly well, across a variety of events. I'm sure you will all agree this has already begun to happen. What I appreciate the most is the willingness of most of the children in our group to give everything a go to the best of their ability! A great lesson for life not just athletics.
