Round 3 Cheshire League - 14th July 2013

On a blisteringly hot day, I thought our training group represented our club Stockport Harriers extremely well. What I am extremely pleased with is that very young athletes are becoming more and more comfortable competing in a large variety of events which is exactly as it should be for developing them correctly. Our Multi-Event group competed in the : 75m, 100m, 200m, 600m, 800m, Long Jump, High Jump, Javelin, Shot and 4 x 100m relay. Our try your best and enjoy every event attitude is beginning to really pay dividends. There were first time, competing attempts, by: Megan & William in the Javelin; Cara and Amy in the Long Jump; Amy in the Javelin; Josh in the Shot & 800m and Ben in the relay. This open and positive attitude, to all events our athletes are asked to compete in, will ensure I am able to develop them in a correct and appropriate manner.

A special mention for the two Alexes who competed very successfully for the first time for their Club. Congratulations from the whole training group, it is good to have you both on board.

Considering the sweltering conditions it was great to see some excellent PBs on the day and I am particularly pleased that so many were in sprinting. We put a lot of work into generating speed and it is nice to see it paying off:

PBs were achieved by Josh in the 100m; Dominic in the 200m; Harry in the 75m; Lauren officially in the 600m; Megan in the 75m and Cara in the 75m. I'd like to make a special point about Will's two excellent PBs in the Long Jump and 600m. If he continues to work hard in training and turn up in a positive frame of mind and focused on what really matters his performances will continue to improve all the time across all events. I am really proud of the was Will has turned things round. Really excellent to see !

Finally, William in his first competitive Javelin event put in an enormous throw to come second overall in the U11 Boys competition and Alex who is in the younger age group put in a really good performance in the U15 Javelin with a really impressive throw that got him 3rd position over all. Excellent throwing guys and I can assure you there is plenty more to come.
