Bury AC Young Athletes Mini League - 12 June 2013

On Wednesday evening 5 athletes from our training group travelled to Bury to compete in their very first outdoor athletics Track & Field event. There were 3 U9s and 2 U11s. The results were excellent all round, considering it was all very new to them. The performance highlights came from: Sam who picked up 2 Golds in the 80m (11.3 sec) and Long Jump (3.66m) and a Silver in the 600m (2.07min); Sophia who picked up a Gold in the 600m (2.18min) and a Silver in the 80m (13.2sec) and Frank who got Silver in the 80m (13.2sec) and Bronze in the Standing Long Jump (1.54m). Ben put in a terrific effort in the U11 Javelin (18.30m) coming 7th. He is in Year 5 and was up against Year 6s, I really look forward to how he progresses in these events over the coming months. William (2.26min) & Frank's (2.25min) times in the 600m were also major achievements and highlights.

Most importantly to me, was watching them put into practice what they learn in training and above all, having fun doing athletics on a Wednesday evening. The effort, commitment and Team spirit were excellent. Finally, thank you to the parents for their commitment and terrific support of myself and most importantly to what their children are achieving through multi-eventing and athletics. The group is going to get stronger and stronger in Running, Jumping and Throwing and that is exactly how it should be with the development of these young athletes.
