Cheshire League Round 1 2013

Eight of our training group represented Stockport Harriers on Sunday in the first Round of the Cheshire league. Josh and Dominic contributed valuable points to the Men's team that won their match against 5 other clubs. Amy contributed points to the Women's team that came second and William, Harry, Lauren, Megan & Cara did very well for the U11 team that also finished second. First of all, I would like to congratulate Megan, Amy & Cara for competing for the first time in a Track & Field event. It is always much harder doing something for the first time and they will have learnt a lot from the experience. Well done to our first time competitors !

I am particularly pleased with the fact that our multi-event group represented our club in a wide variety of events - Sprints, Middle distance races, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot putt, Javelin & Discus. That is a terrific achievement considering we are still a very new and young training group. Our group is providing young athletes with the opportunity to develop across a range of Track & Field events and our complete focus on process is beginning to translate into outcomes. Congratulations to those competing in an event for the first time. It was all new for Josh who got points for the club in the Javelin, 3000m and High Jump whilst Dom competed in the Shot and 200m for the first time. In the events done before by our athletes there were excellent PBs in the Long Jump for Lauren & William, for Dominic in the 800m and Harry produced an excellent throw in the U11 Javelin competition to win it ! Excellent performances all round.

If we continue to train consistently and focus on the process, the results will take care of themselves. I am really pleased with all of the group - they are developing into good all round athletes.

Finally, I would like to thank Gaz, Darryl, Sandra and Aly for volunteering their time to judge the Long Jump competitions during the afternoon. They contributed 50 points to the team and did a  fabulous job in weather conditions that were at times quite unpleasant. Thank you for your support, it is very much appreciated. Without such contributions such events would not exist.
