Cross Country Results - 21st March 2013

A number of our Training group were in action yesterday, as the Cross Country season comes to an end. Megan was competing in a Year 3/4 event at Moorfield Primary School and finished an excellent 8th. I heard of an excellent kick finish at the end and it was good to hear that Megan felt good during the run and enjoyed it. I know that there is plenty of improvement to come from Megan in the coming months and look forward to working with her in training on many fronts. Well done Megan a great result !

Lauren & Cara were competing at the same time at Banks Lane Primary School. Cara is progressing really well with her technique and building speed and stamina and in only her third ever Cross Country came a very good 22nd. Further improvement will come from Cara's imminent increase to two training sessions/week. What she has achieved in the short time period and limited training is excellent. I was very pleased for Lauren who finished in her best position to date 7th and qualified for a top 10 position and medal in ths competition. Really well deserved as she has put in a lot of consistent effort during the Winter months and her attitude to training is excellent. I was not surprised with this result, having watched her train so well on Tuesday, after a period of time when she had a very heavy cold. Well done Lauren on achieving so much in your first 6 months in Athletics !

At the same event in the Boys race, Dominic finished off his first full Cross Country season with a good 4th place. What Dominic has achieved in a 14 month period, has been well documented and he knows what is required for him to now make even further progress. At this early stage of his athletic development, to say that he is already a top 25 Cross Country runner in the region, in this very strong age group, is an achievement to be really proud of. What also needs to be emphasised, is that he is trained across 7 events and not just endurance running and is a very good all round athlete. He gives equal importance and commitment to all events. Congratulations Dominic !

Another great result was achieved by Charlotte for her house team at school. In a very large field of 120 Boys & Girls in her year, she came an excellent 14th overall and was the third girl to finish. A well deserved Bronze medal, for someone who has tremendous potential, as an endurance athlete, as well as other athletic events.

I am very lucky to be coaching a number of very talented endurance athletes, but even more importantly, I am pleased to see the majority of our group continue to work on their endurance, as it forms a good foundation for all other events and sports and is essential to keeping fit and healthy.

Congratulations to you all !
