6th School Cross Country 2012/13

It was great to see so many of our training group compete in the last Stockport Schools Cross Country at Woodbank Park on Saturday. On a gloriously sunny day, it was good to see Grace running again in the Yr 3/4 Girls race, having missed the last two races. Well done Grace, keep working on your endurance and you will develop into a really good multi-eventer! The Year 3/4 boys race followed and it didn't start well, with Will taking a heavy fall in the hustle & bustle of the first 200m. He did extremely well to get up and finish the race in 27th position. If you take his time into consideration as well, it was an outstanding performance, from a young man who showed real grit and determination and it demonstrates his enormous potential. Charlie, with his limited training, put in once again a really consistent solid effort. I am really pleased that Charlie, whose main extra curricular interests lie elsewhere, gets involved and uses his training & these events to build his stamina. William had an absolutely fabulous first effort at Cross Country coming 17th. Considering he is in Year 3 and it was his first run there is a lot more to come next year. The most important thing was that he enjoyed the whole experience tremendously and that is what it is all about.

In the Yr 5/6 Girls race, Lauren ran another really gutsy race, in weather conditions that she found very tough. Lauren has had a really positive first season in Cross Country with 4 out of 5 top 20 finishes. I am really looking forward to seeing her run again next season after getting a full track & field season under her belt. Well done Lauren you have laid down a very solid foundation for yourself to develop from. Cara did brilliantly well to knock 1 minute 17 secs off her previous time and improve by 5 positions. Everything is still very new to Cara and again I am really looking forward to seeing her development as an athlete, over the coming months.

The Yr 5/6 Boys race, saw good efforts all round and special mention has to go to Jack for his best time and position this season. Harry has had an excellent first season in Cross Country including two top ten finishes, I particularly liked how close he was this time to individuals who have got a lot more training time and experience than him. It bodes very well for next year, when he is in year 6. Isaac & Mathew ran really good races with Mathew achieving his highest position this season, Last but not least, it gave me great pleasure to see Dominic pick up the bronze individual medal and be the major contributor to his school team winning this race category. Two achievements really well deserved and to be really proud of. WELL DONE DOM !

Dominic will represent Stockport Schools on the 16th March in a Greater Manchester Schools Cross Country event in Gatley.
